Men Are Spending More On Mum for Christmas
If you’re resting easy in the knowledge that your man is currently deep in thought over your Christmas present, you could be mistaken.
A new survey has revealed that there are plenty of mummy’s boys who put far more effort into a gift for their mother than they do planning their latest romantic gesture.
Conducted by TK Maxx, the poll of 2,000 adults showed that almost half of the men surveyed were thinking of the perfect present for mum, before even considering their wife or girlfriend.
Top of the mummy’s boy list were the Newcastle lads, with 60 per cent saying mum’s present was the most important but they were closely followed by 53 per cent of Glaswegian chaps.
On the other side of the coin, one in five admitted to persuading their partner to buy their mother’s Christmas gift.
Gabrielle Teare, a personal shopping consultant, told the Daily Mail: “It is like they want the meant-well factor but don’t want to put in the effort to go and get the present.
“And if they do go shopping, it tends to be on Christmas Eve.”
Sound familiar?
The survey also revealed that there are plenty of us who aren’t happy with the gifts we receive. 18 per cent were unhappy with last year’s present haul and a whopping 42 per cent were bracing themselves for further disappointment.
Least successful in the gift list was vouchers. 30 per cent said they had never used vouchers from previous Christmases.
But if you get a voucher this year, it’s worth bearing this in mind – with the value of each un-redeemed voucher an average of £36.40, should the whole of Britain ‘forget’ to use them, it would amount to an astonishing half a billion pounds in unclaimed Christmas gifts.
Bet those book tokens don’t seem such a bad idea now, do they?
